On April 8th, there will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044! A solar eclipse happens when the moon moves in front of the sun, covering it up for a little while. This blocks the sunlight and makes it look like the sun is disappearing. It gets dark during a solar eclipse, like a temporary daytime darkness, and you can see the sun’s outer edges, called the “corona,” which looks like a fiery ring. Solar eclipses are exciting events in the sky, but it’s important to watch them safely using special glasses or indirect viewing methods because looking directly at the sun can harm your eyes.
Warby Parker is giving away FREE ISO-certified solar eclipse glasses at all their stores from April 1 until the big day (while supplies last). They will have limited-edition, ISO-certified solar eclipse glasses available for free! Drop by anytime to pick up a pair. (They can provide up to two pairs per family, while supplies last.) You can also check your Local Library – The Space Science Institute’s Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries (SEAL) program distributed more than 5 million solar eclipse glasses to 10,000 public libraries across the U.S.
