Do the holidays tend to stress you out? Don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Spending time with family, cooking, cleaning, and dropping major money on presents are all valid reasons to feel tense around the holidays.

One thing we’re going to try to help you with is the cooking portion of the holidays! Here are a few tips to help you not only save money, but spend that time in the kitchen stress-free!

Tip 1: Don’t go overboard. We know that with social media and Pinterest playing such a heavy role in our day-to-day lives, the tendency is to go big, and try to come up with the most photo-worthy spread out there. Honestly, that sounds good in theory, but it will just cause you more of a headache. Thanksgiving dinner staples are there for a reason- they work! There’s no need to run yourself ragged trying to make a million fancy side dishes. Stick to what works: the turkey, the potatoes, the veggies, and maybe splurge on a fun drink recipe or dessert for everyone.

Tip 2: Consider other turkey options. Depending on how many guests you’re hosting, a whole turkey might not be the perfect choice. Consider instead just buying a turkey breast. Not only will you save money, but you won’t have to roast an entire turkey for the big day! Turkey breasts are far easier to cook, and they still look lovely as a dinner table centerpiece.

Tip 3: Plan ahead. Trust us, you don’t have to go broke shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. Start scouting out a few grocery stores now so you can compare prices. Chances are, Thanksgiving-related coupons and sales won’t be promoted as heavily in magazines and online versus in-store. Once you know which stores have the best prices, you can start your prep without running around like crazy.

Tip 4: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. While you definitely shouldn’t be the only one in the kitchen, we all know how easily that can happen. If you’re worried about being stranded with every dish, tell your guests to bring something! This will save you time in the kitchen, and it will bring everyone together. There’s no reason you should have to tackle every single dinner item for yourself…even if you are the best cook in the family.
