Thanksgiving is just a day away, but we’re sure you’ve already seen plenty of Christmas decor at your local stores. You probably have a neighbor that already has started decorating their home for the holidays; they might even have a trip up already. Maybe you’re one of these early decorators yourself!

Whether you’re a huge fan of early Christmas prep, or you’re in total awe of those that do it, there is one big benefit to filling up your home with Christmas cheer.

As simple or as silly as it may sound, Christmas decorations can actually make you happier!

“In a world full of stress and anxiety, people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood, psychoanalyst Steve McKeown reported. “Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement. So putting up those Christmas decorations early extends the excitement!”

If feelings of joy and nostalgia aren’t enough to inspire you, apparently, Christmas decor can also help you make more friends.

According to the Journal of Environmental Psychology, holiday decorations help you to come off more friendly and accessible. Basically, your decorations can help those who are a little more Grinch-like feel better!

“Nostalgia helps link people to their personal past and it helps people understand their identity,” said psychotherapist Amy Morin. “For many, putting up Christmas decorations early is a way for them to reconnect with their childhoods.”

For those who have experienced loss, sometimes people worry that the holidays can be too much to bear. However, according to studies, seeing holiday cheer reminds those who are missing their loved ones of happy memories, so it’s typically more of a positive experience.

“Decorating early may help them feel more connected with that individual,” Amy Morin continued.

So, no more “bah humbugs!” are allowed out of any of you! Are you ready to get a head start on your decorating yet?
