By now, you’ve probably tried ride-sharing at some point in your life, especially if you live in a major city.
But have you ever considered becoming a driver for a service like Lyft? Whether you work full-time, part-time, or go to school, driving for Lyft can certainly help you pad your pockets with a little extra cash.
While Lyft has only been around since 2012, it’s hard to remember a time when we didn’t see cars filling the streets with those bright pink mustaches.
And with so many people lining up to sign up as drivers, it’s easy to see what makes Lyft such an enticing company to work for.
How Lyft Driving Works
Step 1: Sign up as a driver, answer some questions, undergo a DMV check, and wait to be cleared. After your DMV and criminal history come back as clear, you’re good to go.
Step 2: Download the Lyft app and set it to “driver mode.” The app will then set you up with passengers in your area.
Step 3: Use the directions that Lyft provides to pick up passengers and take them to their desired locations.
Step 4: After dropping off each passenger, you must rate them (they will do the same) to ensure that the Lyft community remains happy and safe.
Step 5: When you are finished driving for the day/night, simply turn off the app.
Why Lyft?
There are so many benefits to working for Lyft, but here are just a few:
- Make your own hours: Signing up for Lyft means you can work when you want, where you want, for as long as you want.
- Prime time hours: During Prime Time hours, like a busy Friday night or Halloween, Lyft drivers charge more for a ride, meaning you make a lot more money.
- Tips: Through Lyft, you get to keep 100% of your tips.
- Weekly pay: Lyft pays weekly, not bi-weekly, so you will always have money at the end of the week as long as you work that week.
