| I can offer a couple of tips here. First, depending on where you shop, there may be e-coupons that are linked to your shopper card. If so, the store will generally take those as well as a paper coupon if you have it. Second, watch sale ads very closely. Stock up on things you normally use that have a good shelf life when you have coupons and they are on sale. Plan meals around your stock. It will take you a while to build up your stock, but you will save loads of money at the store. I routinely save around 50%. |

Remember that bottom line, it doesn't matter how much you save, but keeping how much you spend down.
I have been able to keep my grocery budget under $150 a month for my husband and I.
Another way to save is to plan your meals around what is on sale. On Sunday, pick up a paper with the ads and check out what's on sale. Also check out what coupons there are and plan meals using those too.
Buying bulk can help. For example instead of buying 10 individual sized containers of yogurt, buy a pint and use reusable plastic containers for putting in pack lunches. This is often cheaper than using the coupons or buying the small size on sale, especially if you are willing to buy the store brand.
Another option is to shop at Aldi. It is not as convenient as your regular grocery store but it will definitely save you money. However, to make it a good experience I will give a few tips to know before shopping at Aldi:
1. You will need a quarter to use a shopping cart. It sounds silly but you get it back at the end of your trip as long as you return the cart. You can even make a quarter if there is a cart in the parking lot and you return it to the cart corral.
2. Bring your own bags if you don't want to pay 5-10 cents for each bag. Or you can grab empty boxes as you shop.
3. They only accept cash or debit and not all debit cards work so make sure you bring cash on your first trip.
4. Very little is name brand, but most of the items taste just as good. I've only found 2 or 3 items I won't buy the Aldi brand for because of taste or texture. Plus this means savings without having to clip coupons.
5. There are very few items on sale each week but their regular prices can beat sale prices at other stores.
6. You will find the basics and a little more, so you will most likely need to make a trip to a regular grocery store too, but the savings are worth it.
7. The prices rarely change so if you keep your receipts you can compare them to the sale ads for your local grocery store each week.
8. Aldi's ads are only available by picking up next weeks ad as you leave the store. |

Re Alicia's memo:
I have never heard of Aldi's but Winco's is a great place to shop on the West Coast. It's usually packed, so watch what time you go! They have all the name brands, fresh produce, and a decent meat dept. If you're willing to shop in a giant warehouse and push through the crowds you save alot over the big grocery stores! Walmart is also a great place to save. And they both take manufacturers coupons! |

| Aldi's is the very best place to save on Dairy, Baking needs, cereal, and canned goods. They also carry the most used produce items. They have basic meat cuts, but no roasts. They have frozen steaks individually wrapped that have never dissapointed us. The potato Chips are the only thing we havent liked. You can save enough at aldi's to purchase the things they don't carry. They often have household items and gifts on special too. Those ladies who claim to save so much on their shopping with coupons spend nearly 40 hours a week searching the internet and swapping with other people and believe me, they aren't saving much if you believe that "Time is Money' They exhaust themselves seeking good deals and don't tell you how much quality time they give up being with their families and other responsibilities to achieve such feats. There is a fine line between "frugal and futile" |
